Process to Setup a Business in Sharjah Mainland
1. Choose Business Activity & Legal Structure
The first step is to decide the type of business activity you want to carry out—whether it is commercial, industrial, or professional. Based on your activity, you must also select a legal structure, such as a Limited Liability Company (LLC), Sole Establishment, Civil Company, or Branch Office. This choice determines ownership rules, liability, and the way your company operates.
2. Reserve a Trade Name
You must select a unique trade name that reflects your business activity and complies with the naming rules set by the Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD). The name should not conflict with existing businesses and must avoid restricted terms.
3. Obtain Initial Approval from SEDD
Submit the required documents, such as passport copies, application forms, and business plan, to SEDD for initial approval. This approval confirms that the government has no objection to you starting the business.
4. Draft & Notarize the Memorandum of Association (MOA)
For structures like LLCs, drafting an MOA is mandatory. The MOA outlines details such as shareholding, capital distribution, business activities, and company structure. It must be signed and notarized before a notary public in Sharjah.
5. Lease Office Space & Register Tenancy
Every Sharjah Mainland company must have a physical office or warehouse depending on the business activity. Once you lease a property, the tenancy contract must be attested and registered with the Sharjah Municipality to get an official tenancy certificate.
6. Obtain Additional Approvals (if required)
Certain business activities—such as healthcare, education, legal services, engineering, or financial services—may require extra approvals from relevant government departments or ministries before final licensing.
7. Pay License Fees & Submit Final Documents
After completing all the above steps, submit the final set of documents to SEDD and pay the applicable business license fees.
8. Receive Your Trade License
Once the application is approved, the Sharjah Economic Development Department issues the Trade License, allowing you to legally operate your business in Sharjah Mainland.
